FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR HYDROFOILS
How do the foils differ from older, slower, unstable technology?
The FOILS are an exclusive patented inherently stabile, supercavitating, system with over 40 years of tests and development. They are self-clearing foils (will not trap debris or rope), automatically control pitch, yaw, roll, and height off water, and are easy to operate. The boat does not need to be flown, throttle and steering is all that is required.

What do you mean by the terms Subcavitating and Supercavitating?
These are terms used to describe speeds roughly below (sub) and above (super) 60 mph respectively, as well as the properties of the foils.
Is it safe?
The patented inherently stable design keeps the boat “locked in” and prevents kiting and blow-overs. These boats have fully awash floatation with the doors open, and exceed all USCG Requirements. Our designs are also much safer than other boats because engines, fuel, a/c units, batteries, and their associated noise, heat, and safety concerns are located outside the main hull (aircraft style) in interchangeable engine modules. Hydrofoils have the highest safety record of all forms of transportation. This includes train, plane, auto, and boat. Hydrofoil ferries currently operate in fourteen major countries, travel millions of miles per year and have less than .01 % of the deaths of all other transportation systems.
What happens if one of the foils strikes an object in the water traveling at speed?
The advanced, fully suspended, (aft swept) patented foils ride over immovable objects like a tire over a bump.
Can the Hydrofoil be used when the seas are rough?
Yes. In fact our Hydrofoil operate better in rough seas than monohulls or catamarans since they don't displace water like other marine vehicles that cause significant passenger discomfort in rough seas.
What about maintenance?
Our vessels are very low maintenance.
Engine maintenance: oil & filter change per eng manufacturer
Hull maintenance: water wash down, with normal maintenance & housekeeping
Where are the vessels built?
Hydrofoils Incorporated manufacturers all of our vessels in the United States.

50G ZYTIRON FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much does it cost?
We will match the price of any comparable offshore, Deep “V”, or Catamaran performance yacht and we offer a much safer, faster, comfortable, and more efficient vehicle. For an accurate quote we encourage serious buyers to call with your preferences.
How fast does it go?
This vessel cruises comfortably at 70 MPH. Top speed is approximately 20% better than equal size/powered catamaran or “V” hull.
What engines are used?
The 50G uses twin STERLING 1500 hp high output marine gas engines for a total of 3000 hp, with other options available.
What kind of water can she operate in?
Although she will operate in seas rougher than 4 ft, she will operate very comfortably when most other boats are also out on the water. A graduated seastate chart is available showing what speeds can be expected at various seastate and weather conditions.
Is it a rough ride?
Our high-speed vessels are much more comfortable than equal length displacement hulls such as Cats or deep “V” hull designs. Our patented and proprietary wave dampening designs provide a very smooth and accurate ride with no drift, or kiting. Much more like a racecar than a boat, our high-speed craft are luxurious, plush, and comfortable with ample outside vision for all passengers.
Do they use a lot of fuel?
The 50 G is approximately 30% more efficient than other similar sized high-speed marine vehicles. Our boats do not displace water. A wake is a sign of wasted energy, and wasted money.
What is the draft?
The draft is 18” static or 12” running. These are shallow water vehicles and, with our “fold in flight” capability, this boat can go where most other boats of equal size can’t, allowing enormous new areas to explore and enjoy.
What if you hit something?
Our foils are not like the older foils on other hydrofoils that protruded straight down into the water and would break if they came in contact with something. We solved this many years ago with aft swept, shock-mounted foils that normally ride up and over even immovable objects.
Are these boats reliable?
We use self clearing foils with no foil damage from debris or beaching, and two (for redundancy) quick-change, engine modules to produce an extremely reliable system. Our ferry operators expect their routs to be as reliable as a bridge and the 50Gt uses the same technology as designed for our ferries.
What is it made out of?
Hull: Carbon fiber epoxy (CFE) composite
Foils: Aluminum and Stainless Steel
What drive system is used?
We use an exclusive design by Hydrofoils Inc. that includes adjustable, oil lubed, water-cooled, shafts, with a CASALLE “V” drive, driving twin surfacing props. The design utilizes hardware that is normally subject to more than double the stress under extreme racing conditions and is well tested and proven.
Is there a Galley?
Yes the galley has a sink (salt and fresh water), microwave, range top and cooler.
Is there fresh water on board?
Yes, The fresh water system includes (2) 50 gal water tanks = 100 gallons, engine hot water heaters, and 110 V electric hot water heaters.
Is there a bathroom?
Yes, The HEAD has a sink, shower, and wastewater treatment.
Is there a bathroom?
Yes, The HEAD has a sink, shower, and wastewater treatment.
What about Air Conditioning?
There are two (2) marine air conditioners, with heat reverse cycle.
What about navigation?
Our boats contain full electronics with computer navigation, radar, E-Charts, GPS, high speed compass, depth, VHF marine radio, Loud hailer, fog pa/intercom, horn, (2) onboard cameras (docking, entertaining, security, trip recording), (2) flat screen plasma displays Many options are available and encouraged.
Is there an entertainment system on board?
Yes, state-of-the-art entertainment components include a full stereo sound system with six (6) speakers, AM, FM, CD (w/ changer), tape player, TV marine stabilized antenna, DVD, VHS and two (2) flat screen plasma displays.

COMMERCIAL PASSENGER FERRY FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
75 TURBINE POWERED (75T), 90-FOOT TURBINE POWERED (90T)
150-FOOT DUAL DECK TURBINE POWERED (150T)

What does intermodal mean?
Intermodal means that our vessels can support seamless connectivity to other means of transportation using similar speeds, cycle times, and seating capacities.
Isn't 100Kts awfully fast to be traveling over the water, especially when there are other boats in the area?
Your car can do 120 mph but you normally cruise at about 75 mph on the highway, the same cruising speeds of our ferries. Boats typically have hundreds to thousands of feet clearance compared to the normal 8' road clearance of cars and busses when at speed.
What about traveling at night?
Cars trucks busses and railroads all operate at similar speeds at night and in close proximity to and in opposing directions to other vehicles. Our boats use night vision, radar and optional FLIR systems and can avoid other craft and fixed objects well in advance.
How deep does the water have to be when the 75T and 95T Hydrofoil is docking?
When fully loaded our 75 and 90 foot Hydrofoils require only three feet of water in the normal (foils folded) docking configuration.
Do you have boarding facilities for passengers that have special needs?
Yes, these are American Disability Act compatible vessels.
Can passengers get up and move around while the boat is underway?
Since the foil operates similar to an aircraft, the crew will inform passengers when they are free to move about the vessel.
If there is an emergency, what kind of safety features does the boat have?
In addition to meeting all US Coast Guard, SOLAS, government and insurance requirements, the 75T, 90T AND 150T vessels have the most modern flotation, fire, and accident avoidance equipment available. Hydrofoils are the safest means of transportation bar none. This includes rail plane car and normal boat with millions of hydrofoil passenger miles per year.
